Uganda: Bobi Wine blames Museveni for parading fake converts in Kawenpe

Kyagulanyi says that over 1,000 T-shirts and 2,500 membership cards were filmed during the operation, and now claims that these items were used in Kawempe to be used in phases of asylum.

Robert Kagulany, president of National Unity Platform (NUP), also known as Bobi Wine, denounced the Dominant National Resistance Movement (NRM) in northern Kawenpe for staging Kawenpe’s obstacles ahead of Thursday’s by-election. Kyagulanyi claims that the individual presented as a former NUP member who joined the NRM is a con man dressed in the party outfit seized by security operatives during the raid on the NUP office.

“These accomplices for his crimes were made to wear brand new T-shirts they stole from us, but some of them were waving the very membership cards they stole. This is in addition to attending his meetings and ferrying people from various districts of Uganda to avoid the embarrassment of the empty ground x.

In February, police stormed the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya and Kabure, citing intelligence reports of “illegal military training” within the party facility.

The operation, with heavy security deployments, led to the detention of several party officials and the confiscation of party documents.

Police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke defended the attack, saying it was necessary for reporting “illegal military training.”

Kyagulanyi says that over 1,000 T-shirts and 2,500 membership cards were filmed during the operation, and now claims that these items were used in Kawempe to be used in phases of asylum.

Both President Museveni and Kyagulanyi campaigned at Kawempe North on Tuesday, garnering support for their respective candidates ahead of the by-election.
