Kampala – Himacement has reaffirmed its community’s health commitment by donating 20 million Sherion to this year’s Kabaka’s birthday orchids and celebration, a landmark event aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
The run, scheduled for April 6th, marks the theme of Kabakaronaldum Wendhamtevi II’s 70th birthday.
The initiative supports the Ugandan government’s broader national efforts to eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
“This partnership is not just about fulfilling corporate responsibilities, it’s about investing in the happiness of our community and working together to fight HIV,” said Philemon Mubiru, Head of Innovation and Marketing at Hiva Cement.
“Kabaka Birthday Run provides a powerful platform to reach thousands of people with important health messages, particularly around HIV prevention and awareness. We are proud to be able to contribute to such a meaningful and impactful cause.”
Originally established to address the burden of Buganda’s high disease, Kabaka’s birthday run has played a key role in reducing HIV prevalence in previously the highest ranked region in the country.
Uganda faces serious HIV challenges, with around 1.4 million people living with the virus, with 54,000 new infections recorded in 2022.
The national prevalence rate is 5.1%, with the highest impact observed between young women and adolescent girls.
These statistics highlight the importance of public-private partnerships in advances in awareness, testing, and treatment.

This year’s Run – 12th Edition – Race Categories in 5km, 10km, and 21km and Race Categories in 21km with HIV testing, early diagnosis, and a healthy lifestyle.
By encouraging men to prioritize health, the campaign aims to protect vulnerable groups, especially young girls, from HIV infection.
The event also celebrates the enduring leadership of Kabakaronaldm Wendhamtevi II, born on April 13, 1955.
At the sponsorship accreditation event held on April 3, 2025, Buganda Prime Minister Charles Peter Maiga expressed his gratitude to all support companies, including Hima Cement.
He emphasized that health is the foundation of economic and social development.
“If a consumer is dying from HIV, business owners cannot thrive,” Maiga said.
“Similarly, the Uganda Revenue Service cannot collect taxes if taxpayers are lost to illness. They must unite to end Uganda’s HIV/AIDS.”
Hima Cement is proud to be in the community as Uganda is running towards its 2030 goal of ending AIDS. Not just for health, but for hope, progress, and a future free of HIV/AIDS.
