“Parents, we need your help! Tell your teens about the serious risks of this game,” Sheriff Eddie Cathy said in a statement.
MONTROW, N.C. — A surge in emergency calls related to high school students participating in the virus trend has led Union County officials to warn parents.
Deputies ask parents to intervene if their children are participating in a viral game called “Senior Assassin.”
This trend has led to multiple law enforcement responses across the Weddington, Waxhaw and Wesley Chapel areas, the Union County Sheriff’s Office said.
Earlier this week, deputies responded to reports of suspicious activity near Crane Road, where they found two high school students hiding near their homes wearing completely black clothes. It appears the teens were waiting for her to “ambush” her classmates with a water gun when she returned home.
Lawmakers intervened before the situation escalated.
“Parents, we need your help! Tell your teens about the serious risks of this game,” Sheriff Eddie Cathy said in a statement.
Carrying a water gun that appears to be a real weapon in a public or private place can lead to confusion, fear and dangerous situations, Kathy said.
“Sneaking around a house on a dark night can be misconstrued as a suspicious or criminal activity, especially in communities where many homeowners take their safety very seriously and are often armed with real weapons,” the sheriff added.
