It’s a Copa America nightmare as the US lost 1-0 to Panama in the semi-finals of the Conca Caffusions League. The US was able to create opportunities, but once again Panama was full on USMNT’s side. With the road to the 2026 World Cup on track, there were some struggles expected, unless a full USMNT pool was available due to injuries, but the depth of the surroundings is still there.
USMNT used the unconventional XI during a match where Yunus Musah operates as the right-wing back, but post your positions in positions about how everyone performed during the match.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner (90 minutes)
Matt Turner may have been in a chair for most of the match, but Cecilio Waterman’s finish was well placed so it was almost impossible to save money.
Rating: 5
def Jaw Scully (90 minutes)
Joe Scully had a good moment on the wing that overlapped with Christian Purisick and Tim Weir, but he wasn’t too wary enough for Waterman to get the ball and drive on the US net. Another moment when Antony Robinson is overlooked, although he doesn’t play on his left back.
Rating: 4
Def Tim Ream (90 minutes)
Another steady performance from Tim Ream in defense. He did nothing particularly flashy, but he didn’t make any major mistakes to hurt his team. If only USMNT had younger reams.
Rating: 6
Def Chris Richards (79 minutes)
Tyler Adams had to clean up after the mistake, as Chris Richards struggled to own it from time to time. I had to leave the match after knocking while riding a yellow card.
Rating: 5
Mid Yunus Musa (90 minutes)
Musa is good at putting pressure on USMNT, so it was good to see the final ball on the wings deliver to the box to see someone better, so it may be too versatile for his own profits.
Rating: 6
Mid Tyler Adams (90 minutes)
The man from the USMNT match. It was great to see Adams return to the pitch and clear out any mistakes. Everyone would have wanted a better outcome, but Adams’ return is extremely important for USMNT’s future.
Rating: 7
Mid Tanatesman (68 minutes)
It’s not Tanner Tessemann’s bad performance, he continues to craft the matches deeply. That means he won’t be the guy who divides the line against a team sitting deep. The balance in the middle didn’t suit him.
Rating: 6
Mid Weston McKenney (90 minutes)
Weston McKennie entered a good area of USMNT and created some opportunities, but also failed to take what he fell for. McKenney is a lot, but 10 is not one of them, so it’s another issue with midfield balance.
Rating: 6
FWD Christian Purisic (90 minutes)
Playing Bunker defense makes Christian Purisic struggle to get off the shot, but it’s understandable that taking just one in the entire match isn’t enough. He sometimes struggles to find games and when it happens, there’s not much hope for USMNT.
Rating: 5
FWD Timware (90 minutes)
Tim Weir did what he could to create opportunities from a wide range of areas, but like Purisic, he had to film more during the match. Those who are not usually shy to film from anywhere may have had something to think about in Panama.
Rating: 6
FWD Josh Sargent (68 minutes)
It felt like a great opportunity for Josh Sargent to take his quest to become a starting striker, and he touched the ball eight times and left his one-shot out of the post. It wasn’t Sgt.ent’s fault that USMNT struggled to beat Panama’s defense, but he needed more support.

Alternatives
Mid Jack McGlynn: Exiting the bench spray pass, bringing another dynamic into the midfield. (22 minutes, rating: 6)
FWD Patrick Agyemang: It may have been the night that Patrick Agyemang had two chances to win the game. His impact was good, but he needs to finish his chances of raising the Nine rankings. (22 minutes, rating: 5)
Def Mark McKenzie: It came late as a Richards replacement, but Mark McKenzie had few opportunities to influence. (22 minutes, rating 5)
