Val Kilmer’s cause of death has been revealed… The legendary actor died of pneumonia, TMZ learned.
TMZ has obtained a death certificate released by the Los Angeles County Department of Health. The direct cause of death for Kilmer has been confirmed as pneumonia. The underlying causes listed on the death certificate are acute hypoxic respiratory failure, chronic respiratory failure, and squamous cell carcinoma at the base of the tongue.
Other contributing factors include malnutrition and intermittent tracheal f. We also learned that he was cremated on April 7th.
Kilmer’s daughter told the New York Times that she died on April 1 after fighting pneumonia.

Kilmer has been dealing with serious health issues for many years – after the 2015 throat cancer battle, he lost much of his voice. By the time of his final film role “Top Gun: Maverick,” which came out in 2022, they had to use AI to recreate their voices.
TMZ also found out that his health had become increasingly worse and worse in his final years – Kilmer was bedridden for several months before he passed away.
After his death was announced, the tribute was flooded – legends like Francis Ford Coppola, Cher, Jim Carrey and others pay their respects. Tom Cruise had a moment of silence for his “Top Gun” co-star at Cinema Con.
Kilmer was 65 years old.
