The innovation introduced at last month’s WBC Boxing Grand Prix Tournament can be implemented in the organization’s World Title Fight.
The event is aimed at boxers under the age of 26, with 128 athletes from 41 countries taking place in four weight divisions competing in Riyadh last month.
No draws were allowed, and each match used open scoring after two and four rounds, but instant replay was also allowed.
“We hope it happens in the more weight categories each year,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told Sky Sports.
“One of the biggest results was the few innovations we could test.
“We opened the scoring after the second and fourth round. It was very good for the corners and the crowd. We had a 30-second buzzer before the end of the round, making the fighter more active and engaged.
“We had great success and did instant replays many times. We also introduced an enhanced scoring system. There were no draws. We had a draw with the judges in the three fights, so we went to the enhanced scoring system. The fighter on the right won.
“We don’t want controversy. The worst thing that can happen is fraud.”
WBC President Mauricio Sulayman is hoping that there will be five judges for the match against Tyson Fury’s Olexandre Usaik along with video replays during the battle.
Suleiman continued.
“We will see that in the near future, the WBC Championship fight will also unfold.
“All the fighters went to fight. They didn’t bother losing their undefeated position. They just wanted to move forward.”
