“We need more data sharing and better collaboration to not only solve problems but also to prevent problems from occurring.”
Nigeria is calling for cooperation with the Sahel and West African countries on information and data sharing for effective border control.
Home Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo called on Tuesday, speaking to journalists about a bystander at the London Border Security Summit.
“We need to work with countries within the Sahel and West Africa subregions for better international partnerships and information dissemination.
“We need more data sharing and better collaboration to not only solve problems, but also to ensure that problems don’t occur.
“The main takeaway from this summit is not only responsive, as the country is poised to criminalize irregular migration.
“So this summit is amazing because it gives us the opportunity for the Minister of Border Management to ensure that we all manage our borders to secure our nation,” he said.
He emphasizes that organised immigrant crime was not an isolated issue for a particular country, and is a shared issue, and therefore a shared solution must be provided.
The Minister acknowledged that border crime is a major concern for the federal government and therefore implements strategies to combat such crimes.
“In Nigeria we have border management solutions because we are not just destinations.
“We have automated the solution as we have more steps in place to ensure boundaries are secured and irregular movements are finished.
“We can’t afford to lose the fight before we start it, so we know that in this kind of summit we will effectively fight this threat as a united front,” Tonji Ojo was convinced.
Nann reports that the summit will bring together more than 30 global leaders, including British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer, as well as UK Secretary of the Interior Yvette Cooper, to discuss key issues surrounding border control and organized immigration crime (OIC).
The summit provided a platform for international cooperation on transition policies, security threats and strategies to combat illegal immigration activities.
