Newcastle levelled up with points in Manchester City, fifth in the Premier League.
Newcastle is now heading to the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, live on Sky Sports. After losing defensive duo Botman and Lewis Hall to an injury recently, much needed confidence has increased, and Anthony Gordon has paused for a trip to Wembley.
Bruno Guimarès’ second half effort proved to be a determinant after turning Newcastle over a Harvey Burns cross and plunging into the lead (64), but was the goal that West Ham should be ruled out after Alexander Isaac pushed Max Kilman potentially out of offside position when a cross came when the defender tried to turn the ball.
“They score and the goals are frustrating from our perspective,” Potter said after the match. “We think it’s clear. Both hands behind the defender. It’s a push. He says he [Isak] I didn’t celebrate and thought it was a push. ”
Burns himself was approaching giving the Magpie a superiority before the break, but was denied twice by Hammers goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Areola was impressed on one end, but his teammates were flattered to deceive the other as West Ham boss Graham Potter missed the team’s missed chances early in the game, Thomas Sousek made his efforts at the bar from close range and Mohammed Kudus narrowed down his opportunity through goals.

Guimares: I want to fight for the Champions League
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarès speaks to Sky Sports:
“It’s a big win for us. We want to fight again for the Champions League. Maintaining a clean sheet was a big win for us with big characters. Regaining confidence before the final is a good win.
Match winner Bruno Guimarès was a fantastic voice in front of Newcastle fans singing at London Stadium after a 1-0 victory over West Ham.
“Of course, if you can’t win the game, you’ll lose a bit of confidence, but when you play like that, you show your team’s character. To be very honest, at your best, you can beat any team in the world.
“We need to be consistent. We played well. We kept a clean sheet. The most important thing is three points.”
Howe: A fun end to a challenging week
Newcastle boss Eddiehau:
“It’s not our best game, it’s one of our best games. It’s going to be a tight and difficult team to play against. We’ve been everything that wasn’t in the last few weeks.
“It’s a challenging week, but I’m really pleased. It was a fierce battle victory for us, based on good defensive work from our team.
Eddie Howe praised Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over West Ham, saying his player showed a lot of heart before facing Liverpool in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
“Harvey thought [Barnes] His moment and assisting to the goal were the best cross. He is capable in those critical moments. I’m really pleased that he and Bruno achieve their goals. ”
Potter: Newcastle’s goal was a clear push
“I feel for the players. They put a lot into the game. They really committed performance. We started the game well. We had to defend well at times.

“They score and the goals are frustrating from our perspective, and we think that’s clear: with both hands behind the defender, it’s a push. [Isak] We didn’t celebrate, and I thought that was a push.
“We weren’t doing enough to win the game. We can improve our offensive play. Overall, the boys gave it all.”
The perfect pick for Newcastle
Sky Sports “Patrick Row:
It was by no means a vintage performance from Newcastle, but they left with three key points in the Champions League football race.

He is the 6th highest point with Champions Man City. Hau’s team sometimes got on luck. Nick Pope’s clean sheet remained unharmed by West Ham’s finish, not a goalkeeper’s performance, but they don’t mind.
The Magpie boss described the fixture buildup as “challenging” after losing Hall, Gordon and Botman, but the victory is the perfect pick ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
As for West Ham, it’s clear that they need to be there before. They were a better side to most of this fixture, but they lacked figures in the middle to count those opportunities.
They appear to be safe from the drop, with 16 points separating them from Ipswich on the 18th. Potter has done well to stabilize the ship and guide it to safety. Next season is when real pressure to push is mounted.
