We’ve all heard accusations and whispers from rival fans this season, right?
“This Liverpool team is not really that great.” “The Premier League is a poor league this season.” “Liverpool’s 2024-25 class wouldn’t have won a title in another season.”
But how fair is this?
First of all, we have to say that Liverpool’s regular rivals don’t have the best season.
Defending champion Manchester City is on track for its worst campaign under Pep Guardiola. Manchester United are heading for the worst season in Premier League history. Arsenal made up for points at this stage last season at 11 points, and Tottenham and Chelsea are also struggling with their own struggles.
It was a good season when Liverpool was totally walking around at the time. And the slot guys certainly did that.
Even if Arsenal reached 74 points, which was the top of the table at this stage last season, Liverpool would still be two points ahead.
Arsenal’s highly lauded invincibility ended the campaign in 2004, winning the title with 90 points. The men in the slot need 15 points from 6 games to beat it.
In 32 Premier League seasons, only the 14 side reached that mark, one of them – Manchester United did so in a 42-game season from 1993-94.
Liverpool is also the only side to score over 90 points and won’t win the title – doing so twice under Jurgenklopp – which means only 12 of the teams that won the previous 31 leagues posted with over 90 points.
You can beat what’s front of you, and Liverpool only did it in a horrifying style.
