Meanwhile, Mark Allen has booked his place in the second round of five years in a row, beating Chinese fan Zhengyi 10-6.
The 39-year-old from Northern Ireland took a 5-4 lead overnight after chasing 3-0, getting a break of 88 and 102, resting to set a final 16 tie with qualifying Chris Weikelin.
Former Masters and UK Championship winner Allen has bid for the first world title to complete the complete set of Triple Crown Event victory.
World Number 8 tells BBC Two:
“I stole two frames in a row that I had no real right to win, and it made the scoreline look a bit flattering with intervals – 9-4 could have been easily 7-6, and it would have been a game.
“I didn’t close it as clinically as I liked it, but I ended up well.”
Allen took part in Round 2, with Zhao Xintong closing out a comfortable 10-4 victory over 2024 runner-up Jak Jones.
Jones’ exit means that both finalists last year ended the 2025 event in the first round following the loss of defending champion Kylen Wilson by Ray Payfans on Saturday.
Zhao meets fellow Chinese player Ray at the quarter-finals spot.
In the first round contest on Monday afternoon, three-time British champion Ding Jun Hui opened a 6-3 advantage over the world’s No. 73 Zak Surety.
Debuting Surety struggled to settle early on, down 4-0 before finding a rhythm.
However, the British took a century break as they were reorganized after a midway pause of the session and took three of the remaining five frames to limit the damage before the Tuesday afternoon deadline session.
Si Jiahui controlled the fight between the two former Crucible semi-finalists, with a break of 97 and 73 helping him get 6-3 at David Gilbert.
