All systems are directed to Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Day commemoration, with the main celebration scheduled to be held tomorrow at Motola Business Centre in Nembuziya, the northern district of Gokwe, Midlands.
At the main venue, organizers had introduced a final touch yesterday ahead of today’s children’s party and tomorrow’s official Independence Day lawsuit.
The children’s party will be hosted by President Mnangagwa of Nyamuloro High School, also located in Mutora.
This year’s celebration is being held under the theme of “Zim@45: Devolve and Sovering Itto sitlowing Together overing otgether overling to sotle bision 2030.”
Yesterday, the contractor was busy adding a final touch to the infrastructure ahead of the milestone event. The main highlight of today’s programme is the Independent Flame Lighting at the Siconvera Detention Centre. This is a respected historic site that has now evolved into a national monument.
Vice President Kembo Mohadi is expected to host the Flame Light Ceremony before the iconic torch is moved to Mutla for the main event.
Dr. Edgars Ceza, secretary of local affairs and mandate in the Midlands, said everything was set for commemoration.
“As far as the level of preparation is concerned, more than 3,000 children have arrived to attend the children’s party. The event will be held at Nyamuroro High School, where two new hostels for boys and girls have been built,” he said.
“So, with all the infrastructure developments proposed, we can safely say we are ready to host Independence Day celebrations. Our staff are currently only climbing the venue.”
Dr. Showza further stated that all developments for Nyamuroro High School, including the new school business unit, are complete. Changing rooms and purification facilities were established in the open space designated as the main event.
“The main venue, the football pitch, was completed on time. The grass is lush and green, and the newly constructed terrace is packed with people enjoying the rehearsal.”
Lovemore Mandima, director of the Southern Region of the National Museum and Monuments, said everything is in place for the lighting of the Independence Flame in Sikombela.
“This is a symbol of love, courage, kindness and most importantly unity, unity and virtue shown by the brave sons and daughters of Zimbabwe during the liberation struggle,” he said.
“The flame reminds us to maintain the light of burning freedom. From the Siconvera, it is brought to Votra for national memorial.”
The celebration sparked a wave of excitement among Gokwe residents who praised the developmental impact the event had on the community.
Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Cde Flora Buka said the community is uplifting to host national events.
“We are very pleased as a community to host these national celebrations. They have made a huge difference. Our school now boasts impressive features,” she said.
Chief Chileya repeated the same feelings. “This is a moment we are proud of. The President has brought development to our gateway and local businesses are thriving. We are grateful.”
