Mutare city began fu steaming possible bedbug breeding areas and launched an awareness campaign amid the outbreak in the outbreak outside of Mbale, Harare.
A bed bug was confirmed in an outbreak at a residential unit in Mbale in April. Harare City Council and the government aim to fu steam over 5,000 units in high density suburbs.
Harare City Council officials said the initial investigation revealed that secondhand clothing sold at the Bear market was caused by bed bug outbreaks.
“The city of Mutare is currently conducting routine application of potential bedbug breeding areas in and around the city.
“The domestic bedbugs have also expanded awareness campaigns to educate residents on how to protect themselves in the event of an outbreak. All potential areas where bedbugs can grow and become popular are subject to fu steam,” reads the statement.
Mutare City further claims that social media has bed bugs in the Baco Flea market.
“The fu steam being implemented is a precautionary measure to ensure residents are safe from potential outbreaks.
“As we continue our research and awareness efforts, residents will be kept up to date with the situation.”
Guidelines have been issued to help residents prevent bed bugs from occurring.
