Two miners were killed in a devastating explosion at the Kwekwe mine on Saturday, with one of them unconsciously placing a hot object on a hidden explosive that exploded.
Commissioner Paul Nyaty, a national spokesman for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed the incident.
“ZRP confirms the tragic incident in which Rabsonnukiwane (41) and Albert Mulima (36) died after an explosion believed to have been caused by heated mine dynamite on March 15, 2025 at Dongjk6 Mine in Kwekwe on March 15, 2025,” Knighty said.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims unconsciously placed a hot iron pickhead underground directly on a hidden cache of explosives.
“The heat from the pickhead then ignited the dynamite, causing a devastating explosion claiming the life of the victim.”
ZRP said it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
