Zimbabwe: UZ lecturers continue to push strikes despite government guaranteeing that wage stalemate end

Despite assurances from a spokesman for President Emerson Mnangawa, the government will address their complaints, the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) lecturer says they have not been paying attention to their involvement and will continue to implement industrial measures.

The UZ lecturer is at Loggerheads with facilities and government over poor compensation. They claim that it is being eroded by inflation and the surge in cost of living.

Last week, presidential spokesman George Charamba promised to extend the lecturer’s complaints to relevant authorities, but the Association of University Teachers (AUT) said there was no involvement from the government.

“Nothing has changed since the comments from the president’s spokesman claimed it came from Mr. Charamba. Even with that communication, we are still waiting for the official arrival. There is nothing yet. So we are still in trench.

The instructors have requested that their salaries be pinned at US$2,250, claiming they are on par with other institutions of higher education in the area.

They also lament their incapacity and are forced to use personal resources to conduct lessons.

In a rebellious show, lecturers withdraw from meeting attendance, energizing and marking exams.

In a previous statement, the lecturer said he was unhappy with the slow pace of the government and UZ in dealing with their light letters.

“Despite long-term involvement over 18 months, employers and ministers were unable to meet AUT requirements or make reasonable alternative offers, resulting in the issuance of NO Settlement Certificates.

“The conflict remains unresolved, and the instructor and his family are struggling with extreme poverty and expects employees to provide personal property as a tool for their work, with a net salary of USD 250 and a net salary of 6,000 and an unfair amount, to provide personal property by reading their letters, transports and jobs.
