Monthly inflation fell to 0% in March 2025 against the backdrop of a sustained, close liquidity attitude and cocktails of countermeasures.
The latest data released by ZimStat, ZimBabwe’s National Bureau of Statistics (ZimStat), shows that the monthly inflation rate was 0.0% in March 2025, reducing by 0.3 percentage points at a rate of 0.3% in February 2025.
“The monthly inflation rate for March 2025 was 0.1%, a 0.1% reduction at a 0.2% rate in February 2025. The year-on-year inflation rate in March 2025 was 15%, measured by the USD Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items.
“The ZWG inflation rate every few months in March 2025 was -0.1%, a -0.6 percentage points reduced at 0.5% in February 2025,” Zimstat said.
One person’s Food Poverty Line (FPL) in March 2025 was ZWG864.20. FPL represents the amount required for an individual to provide a minimum daily energy intake of 2,100 calories. Zimstat uses consumer baskets for individuals who are deemed extremely poor to calculate the poverty line.
The total consumption poverty line for one person (TCPL) was ZWG 1,260.52 in March 2025. TCPL was derived by adding additional FPLs with non-food consumption expenditures for individuals deemed very poor.
During the period, the total exports for February 2025 was US$512.6 million, representing a 21.4% decrease from US$652.0 million reported in January 2025.
Imports in February 2025 were US$730 million, down 2.5% from the recorded US$749.2 million in January 2025. The trade deficit for February 2025 was US$227.77 million, converting its 124.2% increase from the US$97.1 million deficit recorded in January 2025.
The country’s major export destinations in February 2025 were the United Arab Emirates (42.6%), South Africa (23.3%) and China (19.3%). The three countries have made approximately 85% of their total export value to US$512.6 million.
